Dare to be outstanding
"...children in whom was no blemish but well favoured and skilful in all wisdom and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science and such as had in them the ability to stand in the King's palace..."
The above was the criteria listed by a certain king before any youth could serve in the palace but only four of them were outstanding, not because they were older but because they decided to be outstanding. They looked past every distractions and forged ahead even when it wasn't easy.
In our world today, there are positions to be filled but only outstanding individuals are needed. It's rather unfortunate to see that people are satisfied with past successes; they are okay with the boundaries set up by the society on success.
Myles Munroe rightly captures it in these words:"one of life's great tragedies is that majority of the world's population is composed of individuals who have negotiated an agreement with mediocrity, signed a contract with the average and pledged allegiance to the ordinary. They have resolved never to be more than the society made them or do more than is expected..."
You were the best in that competition or examination, a big congratulations to you. But that's not all, you can do more. You can go beyond ordinary to the extraordinary. You can be outstanding. Don't rest on your oars, forge ahead. Never let the success of yesterday fill your head to the extent that you don't bother about tomorrow's success. That you succeeded yesterday doesn't mean you will tomorrow if you don't put in your best.
What you have done is a mere fraction of who you are. Many have placed a 'no trespassing' sign over their abilities, talents and capabilities. Because we have obeyed that sign, many of the possibilities with which we were born still exist in us ---hidden and dormant, unused and untried.
Being outstanding isn't a one time stuff, it requires constancy and consistency. You have to prove it over and over. Outstanding people always have an edge over others, they don't stay on the same page with others. They try to find out what can make them better, they go extra mile and so they are always prepared for any opportunity.
Do not let the norms of the society define your success. Refuse to be a mediocre. Don't pledge allegiance to the ordinary. Be resolved to be more than what is expected of you.
I dare you today to be outstanding.
Shalom!!!
