A thousand and one reasons

There was a time in my life when I had a thousand and one reasons why I shouldn't move on. I had a lot of reasons to give up, I used to feel so downcasted. The future was so bleak. But one day I started to look inward and this was the day everything changed. I realized that even though I was not where I wanted to be,I still had thousand reasons to be happy. Looking inward at my life made me realized how amazing and awesome I am. And so I started evolving, learning and expanding. I've blossomed into a wonderful being who is no longer scared of seemingly difficult situations. Now I have a thousand and one reasons why I can't afford to give up. I have a lot of reasons to smile and forge ahead. I'm not yet where I want to be but I've got this assurance that I'm almost there. I'm alive and existing, I don't look like what I've been through.  If you are reading this piece and you feel like the whole world is on your shoulders, you feel as though noth...

Dare to be outstanding

Image
"...children in whom was no blemish but well favoured and skilful in all wisdom and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science and such as had in them the ability to stand in the King's palace..."   The above was the criteria listed by a certain king before any youth could serve in the palace but only four of them were outstanding, not because they were older but because they decided to be outstanding. They looked past every distractions and forged ahead even when it wasn't easy.   In our world today, there are positions to be filled but only outstanding individuals are needed. It's rather unfortunate to see that people are satisfied with past successes; they are okay with the boundaries set up by the society on success.   Myles Munroe rightly captures it in these words:"one of life's great tragedies is that majority of the world's population is composed of individuals who have negotiated an agreement with mediocrity, signed a contract with th...

Don't lose hope on that situation

Image
She had not really enjoyed her marriage when she lost her husband to the cold hands of death. Her dreams of seeing her grandchildren was shattered as she didn't even have any child to carry on her husband's name. Her mother in-law was also bereaved of her husband and two sons and she had to go back to her home town.   The young woman's world crumbled down when her mother in-law told her to go back to her parents. She wept bitterly as she ruminated over life; she had no idea of where she could start from.   Despite all, she decided to follow her mother in-law. She didn't lose hope on life and she later got a husband. And yes, she got the child she had always wished for. This woman's name can't be overlooked when looking at the genealogy of Christ.    Whatever it is that you might be going through right now, please don't lose hope. Hope is what keeps us going as humans and when it is lost, life becomes miserable.    To lose hope is to lose your wil...

Standing Alone

Image
Braving challenges or standing up for your strongly held beliefs all alone are situations you will find yourself in at some point in your life. As humans, we tend to find comfort in groups and being alone on a decision is something we shy away from. The Holy Book says "but Daniel determined in his heart that he would not defile himself with the King's rich and dainty food..." From the above text, it can be seen that this guy determined his stand on his own. He didn't seek the opinions of others before he made that decision. He didn't fear to voice out his opinion neither did he mind standing alone. I think this young man's attitude is worthy of emulation. The fact that everyone you know is going North doesn't mean you should too, you can decide to go East. You don't have to seek someone else's opinion before you take a decision. Learn to stand alone even when no one stands with you. Don't be afraid to stand alone. Don't give in to peer ...

Take that bold step now

Image
Her people were about to be wiped off the surface of the earth and even though she was the queen, she couldn't go to the king to tell him of their predicament except he summoned her. She was in a serious dilemma and had just two options-- one was to watch the enemy kill her people and the other was to risk seeing the king without being summoned which could attract death as a punishment. She chose the latter as she said "if I perish, I perish". She found favour before the king and her people were spared. Many people today cringe when it comes to making critical decisions or taking bold steps. They always want to take the easy way but unfortunately success doesn't come easily. There will be a time in your life when you have to take certain steps or make a decision, you have to do it courageously regardless of the challenges that might come with it. Taking bold steps sometimes entail facing life situations daringly, starting up from where others give up,embarking on ...

Try your best to pass that test

Image
"You will enjoy it, it's gonna feel so good", his boss's wife said as she tried to coax him to bed. He rejected her offer which was unlike any youth of his age; some others would have gladly accepted in a bid to prove their manly prowess. After all, the woman in question was rich and would have readily obliged him anything he asked for after granting her wish. But this particular guy refused the offer and did his best not to yield to the temptation. His resolute decision eventually landed him in the prison because the woman framed him up; but it later did him good as he was elevated from the prison to the palace. I'm sure that there's no way he could have gotten the post of the second ruler in the whole country if he hadn't pass that test. As you go through life, there will be tests and temptations waiting to bring you down at every juncture, you must do your best to pass them (overcome them). Some tests may be to know your stand on certain issues while ...

This too shall pass

He was the greatest of all men in the East during his days until some tragic calamities befell him. He lost all he possessed in the twinkling of an eye. Ten children, seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys; all was gone. In addition to all these tragic events, he was plagued with loathsome and painful sores from the crown of his head to the sole of his foot. He had to stay naked day and night while seated in ashes. There was no soothing ointment he could use for his sores except a piece of broken pottery with which he used to scrape himself. To crown it all, he had no one to comfort him. His wife that could have been a source of encouragement and comfort to him advised him to renounce his creator and die. I don't know of any other vicissitude of life that can be as devastating and painful as what this man encountered yet the Holy book recorded that in all these troubles, he still praised his creator. Not once through a...

The 'I CAN' spirit

Image
"There's nothing that I can't get done, the only thing I can't get done is not existing." The above statement is a personal mindset. Likewise, I think you can do anything if you put your mind to it. The only thing I can't imagine you doing is not existing. No, I can't just imagine it. You have to exist, not just as a mere individual but as a champion in every sphere of life. You can get a lot of things done. You can build that mansion, you can be that world class, most sought after professional in your field, you can dine with kings and princes. You can do anything, I mean anything if only you imbibe the 'I can' spirit. Negativity won't get you anywhere, you have to be positive and optimistic about life. You don't have to use your present situation as a yardstick for your future, they are totally different. Yes, the vicissitudes of life will surely come but only the positive-minded individual will overcome it. The 'I can' s...

While you are waiting...

Image
Recently, I was to travel via train from Ibadan to Kaduna with a friend. We got to the railway station around 1pm only for the officials to inform us that the take off time for the train was scheduled for 6:30pm. We were about 5hours early. Few hours later, we got news that the train was @ Abeokuta and I could see passengers rushing with their loads, people getting some stuffs to travel with, some others were buying food and water to sustain them throughout the journey (I was in this category, lol.) So we prepared ourselves while we were patiently waiting for the train. In life's journey, there are moments of waiting. The wait may be short or long but either one, it isn't just the waiting that matters. It is what we do while waiting that matters. You can only be able to do something meaningful while waiting if you wait patiently and not in an antsy manner. Develop yourself, expand your horizons, build your capabilities so that when the wait is over you can proudly say that it...

The life that I now live

Image
Momma conceived me in iniquity. I wallowed in my transgressions until i got tired of it I was introduced to this man of calvary who I was told died for me even before I was born. What a merciful man! Such overwhelming love  and peace I felt as I laid it all at his feet. Glory filled my soul. The old life of iniquity is gone. I am reborn. I'm a new creature. It is no longer I that live but the man who loved me so much to die for me. The life that I now live is totally renewed. I now work in his power. I now live in his presence. The old life of iniquity is gone. I'm no longer defeated, no longer cast down I am reborn. I'm a new creature. It is no longer I that live but the man who loved me so much to die for me. The life that I now live is totally renewed. I now work in his power. I now live in his presence. I dwell daily in his love. I now live a life of peace A life full of joy I no longer fear about the future because I'm assured that all power b...
